Alice In Wonderland (2010)

Mind you that Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland is not as same as Disney's Alice In Wonderland. Tim Burton who is famous for dark as the theme for most of his movies such as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Bettlejuice and Corpse Bride. This Alice In Wonderland is no more the joyful, colourful and fantasy-liked world, it's n0w dark, sombre and moody. Even Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter is not that joyful at all.

Set 13 years after Alice went to Wonderland, Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) is now a grown up and is forced to marry Hamish, which is the son of one of the Lord. Reluctant to marry him, Alice ran away and once again went down the hole to Wonderland. However, the place is now known as Underland as the land is now ruled by the so-called tyranny The Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). In order to bring wonder amd peace back to the land, Alice has slayed down a dragon known as Jabberwocky (voice by Christopher Lee) with the assistance of the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), Tweedledee & Tweedledum (voiced by Matt Lucas) and the White Queen (Anne Hathaway). Well. the ending is predictable as it is a straight-forward story.

The movie, somehow i felt it was too draggy and using dark as the theme for Alice In Wonderland. I also was kinda disappointed with Johnny Depp's performance as the Mad Hatter. Mad Hatter was supposed to be light and joyable character yet he was too moody and whiny. However, I do agree no other actor can do a better job in portraying weird and likable charcaters as Johnny does. Jack Sparrow, Sweeney Todd, Willy Wonka and Edward. In this movie, the person who shines is the notorious, hot-headed and head-chopping Red Queen - Mirana portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter. Done it perfectly and convincingly without any doubt.

In my opinion, the settings may not be as delightful and coourful as Avatar but it do gives viewers a new perception on Alice's future after she went to Wonderland for the first time. Alice In Wonderland would not be favourable by movie critics but it does charm younger audiences or fans of Alice, Johnny Depp or Tim Burton's movies.

Transformers 2: The Revenge of The Fallen

Why do they need to make a sequel to Transformers, WHY MICHAEL BAY??? WHY???

Just recently grabbing three nods for the Razzies for worst film, worst screenplay and worst director, Transformers 2 is just plain boring for 2 and a half hours with every minute there is explosions and appearances of ridiculous Autobots or Decepticons. The problem with this film is that there is no emotional feelings from the human characters, in contrast Michael Bay wants to make explosion, destruction and fast-paced action as the theme of the second Transformers film.
And it may charm some audiences just like my pals and on the other hand it did not charm some audiences just like me.

The second problem is that the awful acting by Julia White as the most irritating mum in film history and Megan Fox. Look Megan, people just want to watch how sexy are you, not your acting or maybe you did not know that you had been nominated as one of the worst actrees in the Razzies. Well for Shia Labeouf, its just a waste of talent for him to act in Transformers, I feel sorry for him.

Well, there will be a sequel to Transformers 2 once again and lets just hope Michael Bay learns his lesson and do a great job to charm both critics and the viewers, plus do not take the Razzies.
Well I think I do know the title of Transformers 3

Transformers 3: The Third Revenge of Megatron and The Return of The Fallen.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

Wow, because Alice In Wonderland was fully booked, well I have no choice but to watch this show. Directed by Christopher Columbus (who previously directed the first two Harry Potter films), Percy Jackson is just some sort of a Harry Potter, the only difference is Percy is the son of a famous Greek God, which is Poseidon. Below are just the plain old simarities of Potter and Percy:

1. Harry, Ron and Hermoine ; Percy, Grover, Annabeth
2. Harry has Dumbledore as the mentor ; Percy has "Mr. James Bond" as the mentor
3. Harry has a wand and a broom ; Percy has a sword and a pair of flying shoes
4. Harry faces Fluffy the three-headed dog ; Percy faces Hydra the monster
5. Both Harry and Percy are the Choosen One

While Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief is just plain boring and dull, the film just has its advantages from the stunning visual effects and a strong supporting casts such as Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Steve Coogan and Brandon T. Jackson. Just beware that the ending is that predictable but yet at times makes no sense. While Percy Jackson may just not as entertaining as Harry Potter, yet the film is just fun in terms of its fast-paced plot and great visual effects.

My Review: 2.8/5 (I add 0.3 for the greart visual effects)

The Wolfman (2010)

The Wolfman, is a remake of the 1941 film with the same name. Having lots of expectations for movies in 2010, well this film ain't one of them. This film first boast with stunning visual effects and second, its excellent casts from Oscar winners Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, Oscar nominee Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving (a.k.a Agent Smith in The Matrix).

The film is great in terms of acting and visual effects but lack of just a good story and like what I read in The Star newspaper, this movie lacks its soul or in Malaysia, we call it oomph. After I watched this movie, I felt like there is a missing puzzle or piece to this movie. Well, a plus point for these film is that the score for this movie is kind of great. Besides, sudden loud noises and frights would be a great show to watch for couples (you should know what I meant)

Director Joe Johnston who previous films were Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Jumaji, and Jurassic Park III just fail to obtain a good story for this movie. After all, you need a good bedtime story in order to put your kids in bed and have a nice sleep. If you just want to sit down and pick a movie, then The Wolfman is quite a film for you whereas movie lovers, try to bear with this movie but yet enjoy the great acting.

The Dark Knight (2008)

If the first movie that I would reviewed on is definitely my all-time favourite - The Dark Knight. I watch it in cinema twice and then I watched the movie about more than 10 times and I still will not get bored.

The sequel to the successful Batman Begins, The Dark Knight continues the Batman saga in where Batman has to face his greatest villain of all time, The Crown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker (the late Heath Ledger). If you think Batman Begins was better than the first two Batman movies and definitely better than Joel Schumacher's horrible Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Then The Dark Knight will not only will not disappoint but also bring you to an action-packed journey. Great movie supported by an outstanding and excellent casts such as Christian Bale, Heath Ledger (who deserve to win an Oscar for this role), Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gynllenhaal and of course Gary Oldman. Veteran actors, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman also done well in this movie.

What's good about The Dark Knight is that it is real unlike Batman & Robin or Batman Returns which only portrays Batman from the comic world and battle against the evil. Christopher Nolan tackles the social morality of Gotham and how would human act in the desperate time. The Dark Knight would be one of Christopher Nolan's great films alongside Memento, Batman Begins and the average The Prestige.

Why So Serious???
